The Smurfs the movie review

Sony Pictures has revealed they will be making a sequel to “The Smurfs” The sequel is to open on August 2, 2013.

The Smurfs made $78.8 million domestically and $135 million worldwide so far. Last weekend “The Smurfs” had the number one position in twenty-three markets overseas.

The Smurfs are cute little creatures and have been around since 1958. They have made money in movies, television, advertising, figurines, and DVDs. I am thinking that movie producers and studios only want to make movies on subjects that have already been used in movies and/or television. Can it be possible that all the ideas in the world have already been used in movies or television? Or do the producers and studios only want proven money makers? Are there not any bright visionaries who want fresh and new material? What if no one had took a chance on “Star Wars” or “Raiders of the Lost Ark” ? What a loss to movie goers if those two movies were not made. I also wonder why it takes two or three years for a movie to open. The old studios produced movies much more often. There were the movies with the big stars that drew in the audiences.
