The Lying Game “Being Sutton” – review: It ain’t easy being Sutton

The second episode of The Lying Game was just as amazing as the first. During the premiere episode we learned that Sutton and her newfound twin sister Emma both have secrets, but we know that there is a whole lot more lying going on around them, as Sutton’s friends also have their own skeletons in the closet. In this episode we found out Sutton was the ringleader of a trend called the lying game. That means nobody believes her, and her formerly- honest twin sister has to deal with that.
The episode starts out with Emma waking up and finding out that her “dad” is taking her to the Father and Daughter ball. But Emma does not know how to dance, and Ethan has to teach her. As the episode progresses, more secrets are let out, including truths about the parents of Sutton’s friends, her adopted family, and, of course, the twins. Emma even found out about Sutton’s big secret, which is Ethan. Drama has filled the show, and it proves that we have only scratched the surface.
I am excited that this show has stayed on the right path in the second episode. They have kept it almost as if it was the second chapter in a book (not as in the actual series, but as in if the show was a book). It really kept the story intact, even if her friend Charlotte and sister Laurel are sometimes confusing. The writing is beyond amazing, and they really know how to keep fans on the edge of their seats. A great example of this was when we thought Emma was giving away her secret to Ethan’s brother (who also happens to be a chief officer), but of course he didn‘t believe her. That was a moment of gripping-the-edge-of-the-seat kind of drama.
The set was beautiful, even most of it seemed a tad overdone and the school does not really look like a school that most kids attend. Despite those smaller flaws, it seems to be pretty decent. I think the main focus and star of the show is the story. Things like sets, fashion, and other details help add to the series, but let’s be honest: they certainly do not make this show. I have high hopes to see what will happen next. This is possibly one of the better new shows, and I am sure it will be a lasting hit if they stick with their current plot and writers. It is not hard to predict more success.
How do you feel about this past week’s episode, “Being Sutton”? I am honestly amazed by the show and I am eating my own words about comparing it to Pretty Little Liars.

I am completely loving The Lying Game, however I think that Pretty Little Liars is 100000000 times better.
i love the lying game and pretty the liers
I am loving the lying game but it looks like the ratings are rubbish. People don’t seem to be tuning in to watch it.
Mads’ dad is a crazy, what a a controlling, psychotic guy…and then he tries to turn it on Mads at the Father/Daughter dance what a prick, Thayer should be lucky to be away from all that.
but on a related note, I love that they used Malbec’s “Was It” during the argument Mads and her dad have at the Father/Daughter dance ( clip is up at vimeo ). That song is soo dreamy.
