Lady Gaga More Powerful Than Oprah On Forbes List
Forbes has released its annual list of the 100 Most Powerful Women and Chancellor Angela Merkel tops the list.
Secretary of the State Hilary Clinton has risen three spots from last year No. 2, while last year First Lady Michelle Obama who was on the top spot and has dropped to the No. 8 spot. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann makes her debut at No. 22, the big news is that Lady Gaga, who fell from No. 7 to No. 11, now tops Oprah Winfrey, who slid from No. 3 to No. 14. The good news is that Oprah Winfrey is still above the Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano who is sitting at No. 15. The women on this list were chosen not just for being on top but for being smack in the middle of Richter-registering events–and more. Their power derives from money and might, yes, but also thanks to social media reach and influence.
There’s nothing static about the list. Nearly half the women are first-timers or are back after dropping off. Some changed jobs since last year. Most were promoted but some changed tracks altogether or are newly elected to office–all evidence that women are moving up the pipeline. The members come from politics, business, technology, media, entertainment and nonprofit and were ranked by three metrics: dollars, a traditional and social media component and power base points. Forbes looked at if they hold sway over multiple spheres of influence rather than have a single source of authority. What do you think about Lady Gaga ranking above Oprah?
