J.K. Rowling Discovers Her Family Tree
J. K. Rowling had tears in her eyes after finding out about her family tree on TV. The “Harry Potter” creator, J. K. Rowling wept when being filmed on “Who Do You Think You Are?” when she discovered she comes from a long line of single mothers.
Rowling wrote her early “Harry Potter” books while subsisting on state handouts in Edinburg, Scotland. She lived with her little daughter after her marriage came apart. She is now happily married with two more children. Rowling learned that her great-grandmother, her great-great grandmother, and her great-great-great grandmother all raised their children alone. Rowling said, “What I’m very struck by is how many single mothers I’m descended from in this line of the family. There is a definite parallel here.” Rowling has no regrets about learning of her ancestry. She says,” I now have a far greater sense of where I’ve come from.” Rowling’s episode of “Who Do You Think You Are?” will air later this month in the U.K.
I think all of us may be surprised by who our ancestors were. If knowing where you came from can help bolster you up, then genealogy is a good thing. It is interesting and fun to learn about your ancestors.
