Emma Stone and The Help Reach #1 at Box Office
“The Help” movie’s numbers are up from last weekend. This weekend it came in at number one.
The film is director, Tate Taylor’s Civil Rights era film earning $20.5 million this weekend.
“The Help” is based on a novel by the same name. It was written by Kathryn Stockett. It is about a young white woman who is trying to find out about the maid, Constance, who raised her. Constance has disappeared. As the girl trys to find out about Constance, she meets two African-American women. Their lives become intertwined when the young woman writes a book from the perspective of the two African-American women. I think “The Help” will be a most interesting movie that takes place in the 1960″s Mississippi. The story most likely delves into the culture and traditions of a southern state. The perspective of the two African-American women back then will show how much society as a whole has changed. Some people would say society has changed for the better and some would say society hasn’t changed enough. Emma Stone plays Skeeter, Viola Davis is Aibileen and Octavia Spencer portrays Minnie. I think that since there isn’t a big studio mentioned, this movies must be an independent film. The film, “The Help” is performing very well.
