Nintendo Cuts Price On 3DS Once More

Jul - 30 2011 | Sarah Peel | 2 comments

Nintendo’s battle for sales has not improved at all by the looks of it. Even with new games and a previous price slash, the Nintendo 3DS has suffered even more than previously. Sales have remained low and Nintendo feels the heat, so they will be cutting the price once again.

Here are the states the price will drop to $169.99 from $250 on August 12. On August 11th Japan will have a similar price cut. Thus far, Europe has not been slated for an official price cut, except when it does happen it could be as much as 33%. Nintendo hopes that this will boost sales in time for the holiday season to prevent loss of sales during it. Beyond that Nintendo has not released any more plans for the time being about the 3DS.

I am not shocked by the news, but if I were them, I would have waited until late October for it. I think that would help keep the 3DS is peoples minds during the holiday rush season starting. It should be interesting to see how the price cut leads to sales. I am not sure if people are mostly concerned about the risk that came with the 3D or if they are just sick of Nintendo, but I know that Nintendo does have a long road ahead of them. What do you think about the price cut?

The last Nintendo handheld I’ve owned was the GBA, and I didn’t use it much. I’ve largely just allowed the DS and DSi to pass me by. I never even invested in Sony’s PSP. When I first gave the 3DS a look over, it certainly piqued my interest, and I gave real thought to the possibility that perhaps I’d like to once again own a handheld.

But the $250 price tag was just far, far too much for me to rationalize. That’s the same amount I paid for my Nintendo Wii. Psychologically, I just could never justify paying a Console level price tag for a Handheld.

Now that the price has been slashed to $170, I am now giving it serious consideration for purchase. I find myself researching what games are out there, and what kind of support it has for 3D movies.

Bottom Line: The price cut has removed the financial barrier that was preventing me from buying it. Now it’s just down to deciding if there are enough quality games for it.

I think Nintendo probably realized that many people dont want to pay to get a headache from staring at a 3d screen for so long. 3d is awesome but i dont think it will last. i tried playing a game on it but i end up turning the 3d off because it just bothers the eyes after playing for a bit. The price cut is great though because it gives people the option of trying it out atleast who wouldnt have had the chance otherwise
