J.K. Rowling Switches Agents for Harry Potter and Pottermore

J.K. Rowling the popular author of the Harry Potter series  has dealt a blow to the literary world.  The author decided to split from her literary agent Christopher Little and formed a new partnership with Neil Blair a lawyer and former partner at Little’s agency.

Rowling has worked with Little since 1996 when the agent found a publisher for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone which was transformed into Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone for US audiences.  It was confirmed yesterday that Rowling had terminated her association with Christopher Little literary agent.  A statement from StonehillSalt PR that it was a painful decision as Rowling had sought a different outcome for some weeks but the move became unavoidable.  Little will not be the only one feeling a bit of pain from the separation as Rowling revealed that she would be offering several stories and tidbits of the Potter world on her new site Pottermore and she has also promised fans that they will be able to offer the electronic versions of the Harry Potter novels.

Fans have been waiting for years to read Harry Potter electronically on their Kindles and Sony readers and this move will mean Rowling will be able to bypass publishers and sites like Amazon.com as they will be able to purchase the books directly through Pottermore.  What do you think of all these new developments?  Will you be getting a version of Harry Potter electronically?

Potter had never been about anything except making money. Now you know.

Rowling’s move is one big tectonic shift for publishing, and spells the end of the ivory tower days of martinis and high overhead. It will be interesting to see where Rowling will place her ebook pricepoint.
