Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

Maximum Profitus! Harry Potter has cast a lot spells in the past ten years but his greatest magic trick for Warner Bros has been to make a number of box office records crumble and scatter like dust in the wind, with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ending the saga, not with a whimper, but a huge box office bang felt around the world.

Weekend totals will probably be staggering because the first-day numbers earned by Harry’s final adventure are already beyond imagining, with the final film bringing in a domestic total of $92.1 million on Friday. That’s an impressive number all by itself made more impressive by the fact that the last record holder was The Twilight Saga: New Moon with what now seems to be a paltry $72.7 million.

Looking beyond the confines of the U.S. and taking into account the rest of the Potter fans around the world, the film’s worldwide total comes to about $250 million, with another box office record set in Great Britain when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 brought in $14.8 million on Friday, which Warner Bros reports is the biggest single day ever for a movie.

The finale of the Harry Potter saga also set a record for midnight screenings, with a $43.5 million total that beat out the $30 million brought in by last year’s midnight box office champ, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

Yesterday, Hollywood.com predicted that Deathly Hallows Part 2 has an excellent chance of beating the domestic opening-weekend record of $158.4 million held by The Dark Knight.

Is there any doubt that more box office records will be broken before the film leaves the theater?
