Casey Anthony Trial Leads To Caylee’s Law Petition

The world has been following the Casey Anthony trial and now that it is over, the focus has moved back to Caylee Anthony. Caylee, who went missing according to Casey and her parents was not reported early on. In fact, it was kept hidden for a while and only came out when the grandmother reported her missing. After Caylee was found, many wondered why Casey did not report her own daughters kidnapping and so it began. Now a group is seeking a Caylee’s Law that would make it a felony for failing to report a missing child.

This online petition came out around the time of the trial and did not grow big until Casey was found “not guilty”. Over 37,000 people have signed in support of the law. It is currently the fastest growing petition according to Change.org, which is where it came from. The person who launched the petition created it after being mad that Casey was not charged with anything but lying.

I have to say that I am surprised a law like this does not already exists. If seems rather strange that this kind of law would have escaped lawmakers. But it did and now it is being suggested. I think most people will say that a law like that on the books is not a bad idea, but I do think some will balk at it. As people have suggested in the Casey’s case that she was panicked and not trying to hide something. I doubt their is a grey area around this law, so it could sticky.

  1. I would like to sign for the Caylee’s law. This is very sad how the her mother and the grand parents got away with of hiding the dead child and not reported until after 31 days. That is pathathic.

jury should stay off of tv. they are making fools of them selves.

I feel that something wrong went down in the jury room and this verdict did not come down legally. The jurors were convinced by someone that this verdict would be more beneficial to them. I only hope that one of the jurors comes forward and tells the truth and then they will be the hero to end this horrific nightmare.

It’s so sad that a law of this nature must be created. However, like many others, I believe it’s one that has been long overdue. There is no excuse for any child to become a victim of such neglect. Especially, when it occurs while in the care of their mother. I too, have followed this case from the very beginning, as with any other case involving a missing child. I was especially drawn to this one because of the extremely unusual circumstances that were involved. It’s unheard of, for any loving parent, or grandparent, to not report that their child is missing for one second at this age. I can’t possibly try and make sense of how one mother can go 31 days before reporting something so meaningful and critical. If I had gone without seeing my grandchild for more than the usual days of contact, I would be alarmed immediately. This would prompt an urgency for concern, and someone would be producing my grandchild. If not, my next contact would be the local authorities, and anyone that could assist me. I can’t imagine the pain these grandparents are going through, but I’m still in constant wonder of why they didn’t see much sooner that something was wrong. This child was their life! These people were helping in her daily care and raising. It doesn’t seem right that so many days had passed, and their granddaughter was nowhere to be seen or heard from. Weren’t they concerned if this baby was being fed, or taken care of properly? To me, that would be my first concern after a couple of days being absent. I’m trying to understand their situation, but I simply cannot. I am not casting blame on them for her death, I’m only stating that there had to be a serious breakdown among this family in regards to how this whole situation first began. As for Casey, she claims her innocence, as well as the jurors that set her free. If she didn’t murder her child, then she should atleast be guilty for contributing to it. It’s the first 48 hrs that are the most crucial in the recovery of a missing person. This is the time when the trail of evidence is at it’s highest. She purposely interfered with her childs investigation by not reporting her missing. She knowingly kept a dangerous situation from proper authorities, where they could conduct their investigation. This woman allowed her baby to go unsearched, with any chance of a good outcome. To me, that is what I consider to be not only endangerment to a child, but also, interfering in a police investigation. As I recapture the many jail conversations she had with her parents, I recall many untruths being told then. One, she stated Zanny had put a straightener in her hair. Then, she told her mom no one had touched her hair since SHE, Casey, had done something to it. Both times these statements were made during the same conversation with her mom, as if Cindy was trying to catch her in a lie. Well, I did! I am so thankful to all of the different states that are pushing this law to become active. I am tired of seeing so many children that are missing, only later to be found deceased, or never found at all. This has to be stopped now! I don’t care who’s care the child is in at the time of them going missing. An innocent parent, grandparent, relative, or friend can establish their innocence once the report is made, and the search begins. It should never be an issue of protecting oneself if there is nothing to hide from the start. The only issue should be that every child be given the most extensive search that the police departments can make possible. Let this law pass, and be written. It is one so worth needed, with a purpose that goes without saying. Without this law, we are allowing jurors to make decisions that are improper due to a lack of strong evidence. We will be opening up doors for “copy cat” cases to fill the courtrooms. Why wouldn’t we see them? After all, Casey Anthony set the blueprint for any parent ready to retire from parenthood. Don’t allow this to become a new trend among our society! Make this a law, and help keep our children safe!
