The Voice: Semi-Finals Elimination Show Recap

The first results night for NBC’s The Voice was on Wednesday night. Tuesday night, there were four more eliminations and then the remaining eight singers (two from each team) took the stage for yet another chance to wow the audience and coaches in order to garner votes and to make next week’s final. Each judge/coach started Wednesday night with two contestants each, but by the end of the show, they had only one, to leave four contestants remaining. The judge/coach and their teams were as follows: Blake Shelton had Dia Frampton and Xenia; Cee Lo Green had Nakia and Vicci Martinez; Christina Aguilera had Frenchie Davis and Beverley McClellan; and Adam Levine had Javier Colon and Casey Weston. Now it’s time to find out how the show went and who moved on to the the next round.
The show started off with an American Idol-esque medley performance of pop legend George Michael’s “Faith/Freedom.” Overall it was a good performance, but, but like most group performances, it came across as cheesy.
Next up, Carson announced that it was the first round of eliminations, and he started with Cee Lo’s group. He first asked Cee Lo to share his scores from the previous night’s performances; he ranked Vicci 49 points and Nakia 51 points. America’s rankings had an overwhelming majority voting for Vicci (75 points) over Nakia (a mere 25 points). With such a slight score difference, Vicci easily earned a place in the finals thanks to the voters she won over.
The next elimination round came from Team Adam. I think everyone was surprised when Adam revealed his scores for the night, because he gave Javier a significantly higher score (65 points) over Casey (35 points). His reason for this was that because Casey was so much younger, she would have a lot more chances at obtaining a record contract. Javier moved on to the finals.
Blake’s girls were the next to go through the elimination round. Blake admitted that he couldn’t choose which one he wanted to go to the finals, so he gave both Dia and Xenia 50 points. He let America choose instead. Not surprisingly, Dia scored more points (56) than Xenia (44) and moved into the finals.
The final elimination round was from Christina’s group. Like Blake, Christina couldn’t really make a decision on who she wanted to see go to the finale, so she also gave both her singers (Beverly and Frenchie) 50 points. America chose Beverly (with 57 points) over Frenchie (43 points), and Beverly became the last finalist.
There was one more song performance that night, courtesy of Cee Lo Green, who sang ”Bright Lights Bigger City.” I really enjoyed the song, and I loved the retro feel of the performance.
I was pleased to see Javier and Dia make it to the final rounds, but I was torn between Frenchie and Beverly. Both singers have equally dynamic voices and amazing stage presence. I can’t wait to see what happens next week and to see who wins the title! Did your favorite make it through? Let us know what you thought.
