Saoirse Ronan Is The Host For New Stephenie Meyer Movie

For the past few years, all the fuss has been over Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga, but fans of Team Edward and Team Jacob might want to start considering becoming fans of Team Melanie because MTV News reports that the lead character for Meyer’s The Host has been found.

Saoirse Ronan received a lot of attention in The Lovely Bones, and now she’s kicking butt in a major way with Hanna, which reveals the type of tough character that’s going to be needed for The Host, which revolves around Melanie Stryder resisting total mental domination from the parasitic alien that now lives in her head. Stryder’s determination leads to an unlikely alliance with the extraterrestrial intruder known as Wanderer.

Meyer, known to be a very hands-on type of author, selected writer/director Andrew Niccol to pen the adaptation, and the film will be making the rounds at the Cannes International Film Festival in search of a distributor.

Considering that the Twilight saga struck major box-office gold, I don’t think it will be too hard to find someone willing to take on The Host, even though there are no sparkly vampires or moody werewolves anywhere in sight.

Actually the novel dwells equally (probably much more) on the alien herself, not just on Melanie who is possessed by her. You get Wanderer’s perspective a lot in the novel, a whole lot.

She’s the right actress but not for the right character. She doesn’t look like Melanie Stryder… she looks more like (SPOILER, sorry) the body, “Pet,” that Wanderer ends up in at the end of the novel.

I completely agree. She is not Melanie at all. Frail looking and pale. Good way to ruin the movie before it has a chance.
