Nintendo 3DS Sells Less Than Original

Apr - 12 2011 | Sarah Peel | 7 comments

The Nintendo 3DS has had a lot of hype, but it seems to be a flop for Nintendo. It is reported to have sold less than the original DS when it first came out. This news comes on the heels of Nintendo saying that the next generation of consoles will not feature any 3D support.

I am not surprised by this news. I always thought that the 3DS would flop, and it appears that is indeed happening. I wonder how Nintendo will handle it? The last DS update also flopped, so maybe they should just stick with the original model?

What do you think about the 3D model flopping? Do you think it will catch on once more games are released for it? I think that Nintendo needs to go back to what they know best, which is a simple game console with minor improvements. Otherwise Nintendo may find themselves slipping further and further behind the other two mega consoles.

How the hell do you know it flopped without mentioning any references. Also, you mention that Nintendo is slipping further and further behind the mega consoles. How can that be when the Wii is #1 in consoles sold. What a nit-wit.

  2. Proto says:

You’re joking, right? Do you have the sales figures to back up this claim that the Nintendo 3DS is perforing “worse than its predecessor”, despite the fact that Nintendo JUST ANNOUNCED that it’s their best selling handheld launch in history?

This article fails on all accounts. Stick to what you’re good at. Write some more Justin Bieber and Britney Spears articles and leave gaming industry news to people who know what they’re talking about.

References please? Also, Nintendo only said that the next home console would not be based on 3D. Is this flame bait or intentionally misleading copy?

  4. Sarah Peel says:

The source did not give numbers on how many sold. However, if Nintendo is not selling that many of them I doubt they will release the early sales numbers.

    • Proto says:

Execept, Nintendo alreaedy said that they will be releasing sales numbers when the official NPD numbers are released this month. Stop lying, stop flaming, stop writing false information. It’s really pathetic.

  5. Dodongo says:

The figures aren’t even out yet. Even so, why would selling less than the original be a “flop”?

  6. Sarah Peel says:

Quick update, the 3DS sold over 400,000(four hundred thousand) units during its first week alone for the US. Nintendo says they are happy with the record, but they did not say that it broke previous records set by past consoles.

They did also say that they are believe once the first month sales are counted that records will be broken.

So it did sell okay, but the orginal did sell 500,000 during its first week in the US. So this report was correct by that they did sell less than the orginal.
