Grammy Awards Make Big Changes to Categories

It looks like Grammy Awards will be going on a diet of sorts.  The famous award show is cutting 30 categories in a radical move to revamp the awards show in it’s long history.

The Grammy’s will be trimming the field of categories from 109 to 78.  What this means is that male and female pop, country and R&B artists will be going head to head in their genres instead of vying for their own trophies.  The award show has bumped the minimum number of artist entries in each category going from 25 to at least 40.  If there are less then 25 entries the category will go on hiatus for a year and if the same shortfall happens for three consecutive years the category will be discontinued.  The biggest changes the Grammy’s have made is removing the separate male and female pop vocal awards will be Best Pop Solo Performance.

Other changes will include Best Pop Instrumental Performance, Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals will be consolidated into Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.  The Award show will of course keep their biggest four awards Best Record, Album, and Song of the Year and Best New Artist will remain the same.  What do you think of all the changes the Grammy’s have made?
