Elizabeth Banks Joining The Hunger Games As Effie Trinket?

By on April 20, 2011

Elizabeth Banks is up for the honor of sending some poor, sweet, innocent children to their deaths. Okay, maybe sweet and innocent is a bit of a stretch, but TVGuide has mentioned that Banks is being considered for the role of Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games.

Casting for Gary Ross’ big screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games is rolling right along, with news of new tributes coming out on a fairly regular basis. In addition to Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth landing the roles of Katniss, Peeta, and Gabe; Amanda Stenberg and Dayo Okeniyi have slipped into the District 11 slots as Rue and Thresh.

If Banks actually gets the role of Effie, she’ll be escorting Katniss and Peeta from District 12 to the Capitol and providing some much-needed information for both the characters and the audience. She’ll also have the thrill of speaking the now-immortal words, “Happy Hunger Games, and may the odds be ever in your favor!” Come on, now! Who wouldn’t love to get the job of saying that?

The Hunger Games is set to hit theaters in March 2012.
