Madden NFL 12 Includes Concussions

In 2009, the NFL put rules in place that prevent players from going back on the field if they’ve suffered a concussion, and Kotaku brings word that this rule will also be a part of Madden NFL 12.

Previous versions of Madden have included a coaching decision to put players back in the game, depending on if the sustained injuries are considered playable. Borrowing from rule books of the real world, concussions will not be considered playable injuries.

George Atallah, a senior official with the NFLPA showed his support on Twitter with the message,

“Good for EA Sports. Concussed players in NFL Madden prevented from returning to play. Culture change is important.”

Kotaku contacted the makers of Madden, EA Tiburon, for confirmation on this new video game element but no response has been received at this time.

Do you think this realistic feature is a good one to have for showing how serious concussions can be or is this taking the realism of video games a little too far?
