New Gnomeo and Juliet Movie Poster

A new poster has been released for Gnomeo and Juliet which is set to hit theaters on February 11, 2011.  The movie is a classic re-telling of Shakespear’s Romeo and Juliet, except the story revolves around lawn gnomes.  Gnomeo and Juliet have many obstacles to overcome as they are caught up in feud between neighbors.  With plastic pink flamingos and lawnmower races in the mix the couple will have to figure out a way to make their love last.

The movie will have the music of Elton John and the film is more of a parody then a true  retelling.  There will also be music from Nelly Furtado, Lady Gaga, Kiki Dee and selections from the score composed by James Newton Howard.  Along with the voices of Jason Statham as Tybalt, James McAvoy as Gnomeo, Emily Blunt as Juliet, Maggie Smith as Lady Burberry, Michael Caine as Lord Redbrick, and Patrick Stewart as William Shakespeare.

This film is an original idea of Rob Sprackling and John Smith who sold the script to Disney through Rocket Pictures.  The production was shut down and eventually picked up by Touchstone Pictures.  This is their first animated picture since 1993’s The Nightmare Before Christmas and the film will be released in 3D.
