Nintendo Enjoyed Black Friday All Week Long

While many businesses enjoyed the shoppers that braved the stores during Thanksgiving week, none of the stores probably enjoyed them as much as Nintendo. According to their internal sales estimates, Nintendo sold 1.5 million gaming systems from Sunday, November 21st to Saturday, November 27th, with the lion’s share of 900,000 sales belonging to the DS, DSi, and DSi XL. The Wii lagged behind a little bit, with only 600,000 sales.

The president of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, reported that, “U.S. shoppers bought 9,000 hardware systems nonstop for every hour of every day during the week of Black Friday,” because, “For the past several years, consumers have decided that Nintendo defined both top value and all-inclusive entertainment, and that sentiment continues again at the start of this shopping season.”

Even though other Nintendo systems outsold the Wii, the company believes that both the red Wii and the DSi XL that were released to celebrate Mario’s 25th anniversary contributed to the estimated success. Holiday bundles consisting of orange and green Nintendo DSi systems are also attributed to bringing the gamers out for the Black Friday sales.

Does the color of the game console really play such an important role? Did you face the Black Friday shoppers to get a red Wii or a green or orange DSi?
