A Brand-New Day With Mouse and Mole by Wong Herbert Yee – Review

Sep - 02 2010 | Kerry | no comments

Mole has a big problem – all of his clothes have holes in them.   He is very particular about his clothes and doesn’t want to buy anything different from his usual style, even though his friend Mouse encourages him to update his wardrobe.  She laughs at his moth-eaten clothes, but Mole is not amused.  The hole-y pants makes Mouse think of cheese and Mole think of worms, so they decide to go find some lunch before shopping for clothes.  Mole surprises Mouse by being a little adventurous with his clothing choices, and goes a little farther by making something fun for her out of something old.  She, in turn, surprises him by updating his old clothes with her old clothes, so that he doesn’t have to give up his old style completely.  These two friends are very creative and use their imaginations to find ways to help each other.  They also know how to have fun together and enjoy fishing and diving after their shopping spree.

Wong Herbert Yee has written two other books on the friendship of Mouse and Mole, capturing the ease of their relationship in gentle watercolor illustrations that are adorable right down to the facial expressions of frustration, concern, and joy that often come with having a best friend.
