Pixar Cars Sequel Takes To The Skies

Pixar Studios has been planning a sequel to the hit movie Cars, which is reportedly having story problems. Cars 2 is set for release in June 2011.  Now it’s being reported that Pixar’s contemplating a straight to DVD spinoff that looks up for inspiration.  Planes will take place in the Cars universe, but will take place in the air instead of on the track and highways, and is being sent to DVD so it won’t detract from the Cars 2 box office take.

Pixar has already developed spinoffs from the Cars franchise, including a  TV series in 2008 and 2009 called “Mater’s Tall Tales”, which boasted John Lasseter as director.  Let’s hope Planes keeps to the Pixar reputation for high quality entertainment, and doesn’t end up like a “Jay Jay the Jetplane” ripoff.

  1. I certainly hope that Cars 2 will go on as scheduled. Pixar already ditched “Newt” and I’d hate to see this one go down in a fiery blaze.
