Joss Whedon To Direct “The Avengers”

By on July 26, 2010

It’s official!  Sci-fi wunderking Joss Whedon is going to be directing The Avengers, the movie based on Marvel’s popular comic.  It’s part of the Ironman franchise, and will follow the other Ironman spinoff Thor. Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh, is set to hit theaters in 2011 and The Avengers will follow in 2012.   Whew, that’s a lot of Ironman universe!  Don’t worry, they’ll all tie together with the same characters and actors so you’ll be able to keep them straight.

The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr. (Ironman), Chris Hemworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), and Samuel L. Jackson.  Whedon also has a writing credit.  He’s the genius behind the popular Buffy The Vampire series, Firefly, Angel, and Dollhouse, so I think the movie is going to be great.
