Justin Bieber gets cover of todateen magazine

Jul - 31 2010 | Damon Cap | 4 comments |

Justin Bieber gets the cover of the Brazilian magazine todateen for the August 2010 issue.  Even though I have some trouble with reading the cover it seems that we have some Justin Bieber, Kristen Stewart as well as some stars from other countries like Luan Santana who seems like a singer.

Do you think it is a good shot of Bieber?  Seems a little school yearbook looking to me so I would have to say no.  You can also check out Shaq singing to Justin Bieber and the awesome rumor news that Justin may be going to Wizards of Waverly Place.  I just hope he will be playing himself like Shakira did.

Hannah Montana talks to Jay Leno on The Tonight Show

Jul - 31 2010 | Damon Cap | 2 comments |

That is right we said Hannah Montana not Miley Cyrus.  While everyone knew that Jay Leno would be making a guest appearance on Hannah Montana Forever on the Disney Channel, not much else was known about his role.  Well now it seems that DisneyInfoNet has the scoop.

Miley Cyrus will be playing Hannah Montana who will be appearing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.  So a show within the show, which is cool as it lends itself to the illusion that Hannah Montana is a real star in our world.  I am actually going to be a bit sad when Hannah Montana ends, it was one of my go to VOD shows.

You can also get a chance to be in the photo mosaic for the last Hannah Montana album.  You just need to preorder the album before September 3rd and be one of the first 10,000.  So what has been your favorite episode so far of the season?

Zen & Xander Undone by Amy Kathleen Ryan – Review

Jul - 30 2010 | Douglas Cobb | no comments |

Zen’s the protective black belt in shotokan karate. Xander is her older sister, into boys (bad ones, mostly), and she’s starting to get into parties and drugs. They both have had a hard time coping with things since their mother died of cancer. Zen tries to look out for her sister, and warn her away from guys who seem too sleazy and are only out to get some action. She even kicks one guy in the head when he doesn’t want to take “no” for an answer, and tries to force Xander into his car one night. Xen & Xander Undone, by Amy Kathleen Ryan, author also of the excellent novel Vibes(which I reviewed at a different site), has scored a winner again with this heartwarming and often humorous novel about the relationship between Zen and Xander.

“Sisters, best friends, or each other’s undoing?” That’s what the front of the novel’s jacket asks. You can pretty well imagine the answer, if you have brothers or sisters of your own, so I won’t spoil anything by telling you that sisters are always sisters, and brothers are always brothers. Often, Zen and Xander, like any other sisters and brothers, are each other’s best friends. Also, often, whether accidentally or on purpose, they–like maybe your own brother or sister–get each other into trouble, or are their own “undoing,” as the author puts it.

Their mother, before passing away, wanted to leave her daughters something to remember her by. She wrote them letters and bought gifts like a prom dress for Zen, and she arranged to have someone deliver the letters and gifts to the girls’ house or other places, like to her grave site at the cemetery she’s buried in on the first Mother’s Day after her death. She’s asked them not to try to discover who she’s chosen to carry out the deliveries, but Xander convinces Zen to help her figure out who it is, anyway.

Besides investigating into the mystery of who is delivering the letters, Zen and Xander learn by “borrowing” their mom’s file from her lawyer’s office that she’s left an expensive small statue of two lovebirds to someone called John Philips. He was apparently the man who gave the lovebirds to her originally. They wonder if their mother had an affair with this person, who said in a brief letter the sisters find in their mom’s file: “I loved her very much, and her death has dealt me a terrible blow.”

The novel is told in the first person, according to Zen’s point of view, but Xander’s character comes through very well, also. It’s interesting to read about their relationship as both sister and friends, and how they care for and look out for each other, and I really liked the idea of their mother also wanting them to always stay close to each other, using letters to communicate with them from beyond the grave.

I read and reviewed the author’s first book, Vibes, because I thought that it sounded like a novel my teen daughter would enjoy reading. I found that I also really liked reading it, and if you enjoyed Vibes, you will get into reading this book, as well. If you like quirky, often humorous novels that are about the relationships that develop and mature among sisters, then you’re sure to want to read Zen & Xander Undone. Check it out today!

Brain Camp by Susan Kim and Laurence Klavin – Review

Jul - 30 2010 | Douglas Cobb | no comments |

Welcome to Camp Fielding, the Summer Camp of your nightmares! It’s a camp where you’ll get the education of a lifetime, whether you want to learn or not. It’s guaranteed to transform the dumbest teen into worthy material for Harvard or Yale, and if you’re not a bird-brain when you enter through its gates, you will be one before you exit them!

Brain Camp by Susan Kim ( Courage the Cowardly Dog and Are You Afraid of the Dark) & Laurence Klavin (Edgar Award winner), who collaborated together in the First Second graphic novel City of Spies, is enhanced with beautifully rendered drawings by Faith Erin Hicks (Zombies Calling and The War at Ellsmere) and glossy vibrant color artwork of Hilary Sycamore. These four people have created in Brain Camp a graphic novel with very eye-catching illustrations and a plot that might make you suspicious of your parents’ motives (or those of any adult) when they say: “We’re doing this for your own good!”

Teens Jenna and Lucas are the main characters of Brain Camp. They come from different families and backgrounds. Jenna’s parents are concerned that their daughter is not making much progress in high school, and they’re jealous that the daughter of friends of their that come to a party at their house is only fourteen and is an expert at the piano and is going to attend Yale in the Fall. They want Jenna to also excel at school, and go to college at Yale or some other prestigious college. In Lucas’s case, he’s being raised by his mother, who often gets drunk. He’s committing petty crimes, breaking into cars, and his grades are low.

Jenna’s parents meet with a mysterious man after the party, and the man offers Jenna a chance to attend Camp Fielding, as there have recently been two teens who have left the program. They are seen at the start of the graphic novel, coughing up feathers and seemingly changing their facial appearance, and developing bird-like features. Lucas’s mom is visited by the same man, who offers the same proposition for Lucas. Their parents send them to Camp Fielding, hoping for the best.

You can probably guess that Jenna and Lucas become almost immediate friends. They don’t eat the food all the other campers are eating, because it looks like disgusting gray slop. Instead, they sneak energy bars from people’s backpacks and lockers, and steal pizza from a delivery truck. Everyone else around them start getting smarter, making Jenna and Lucas wonder if they’re doing the right thing by not going along with what everyone else is doing. But, everyone else is also getting throbbing, gross, veined growths on their foreheads they try to hide with their bangs.

The camp personnel, Lucas sees one night while hiding beneath a bunk bed, are giving the campers shots while they sleep. What could they be up to? He and Jenna are told they’re being given the shots to prevent them from getting sick, like the two campers at the start of the book did, but they can’t help but think they’re being lied to, and they investigate on their own.

Will Lucas and Jenna give in, also get the shots, and turn into bird-brains themselves? Or, will they manage to escape Camp Fielding, and warn their parents about what’s really going on there? Will their parents even care, or be more concerned about Jenna and Lucas getting smart, no matter what the cost?

There’s only one way to find out, because this bird-brain ain’t gonna tell you any more! That’s to buy Brain Camp, read it, and see for yourselves! It may not be for younger kids, because it does show some gross things like the foreheads I mentioned, dead birds, and Jenna and Lucas kissing, but it’s definitely a fun graphic novel that tweens and teens should enjoy checking out.

Be in the Miley Cyrus Hannah Montana Mosaic!

Jul - 30 2010 | Sarah Peel | 5 comments |

With this being Hannah Montana Forever and being the final season, it makes sense that they want to release a final album. But it also makes sense to celebrate the shows loyal fan base! Which is exactly what they are doing with this latest promotion that they are having. Reportedly, it will work like this, you preorder the new album before September 3rd and if you are one of the first 10,000 you can submit your photo. You will also get a poster of the photo mosaic.

I think it is a nice way to thanks toHannah Montana Forever fans, yet I think that they are misleading fans with their marketing. They make it sound like that the fans will actually be on the album! So I think a few fans will be bummed out, but still the thought is what counts here.

To find out Miley Cyrus thinks about saying goodbye to Hannah Montana Forever. You can also find out which former co-star will make a come back during this finale season for a few episodes. So this season will be a hit and do not forget about the presale contest.

Tiffany Thornton Can’t Dance!

Jul - 30 2010 | Lisa Stauber | 1 comment |

Tiffany Thornton, who plays Tawni Hart opposite Demi Lovato on “Sonny With A Chance“, hit the party circuit this week.  She joined friends on Tuesday to celebrate the release of Savvy & Mandy’s party to celebrate the release of their new video, “Words”.

Tiffany has been working hard, finally getting her first day off since November.  She just wrapped up the second season of “Sonny” with a whopping 26 episodes – that’s twice as many as a typical network show! She’s going to see her friend Francia Raisa, from “The Secret Life of an American Teenager”, perform.  Tiffany can hold her own at a party, but definitely doesn’t consider herself to be a pro.

“I have rhythm, don’t get me wrong, but I’m definitely not a dancer.”

Pixie Lott Starstruck By Justin Bieber!

Jul - 30 2010 | Lisa Stauber | 1 comment |

Pixie Lott, the British music songstress, is hotter than ever.  The award winning artist performed her single, “Turn It Up” on “Britain’s Got Talent” last month, and she has a new movie in the works.  She’s going to be featured in Fred: The Movie alongside iCarly actress Jeanette McCurdy (Sam) and John Cena, from the WWE.

She’s also featured on the cover of Sugar magazine, a teen mag published in the UK.  She talks about finding a boyfriend and describes meeting Justin Bieber:

“I did a TV show with Justin Bieber recently. He is a little cutie. I went looking for him before the show to introduce myself and he was in his dressing room. It was full of people and I was like, ‘Hiiiii!’ He was so nice and friendly but, before you ask, no he didn’t flirt with me!”

Well, at 19 she’s a little bit older than Bieber and I’m not sure she’s what he wants in a girlfriend. The September issue of  Sugar is already on newstands in the UK.

Kendall Jenner Growing Up To Fast?

Jul - 30 2010 | Lisa Stauber | 2 comments |

Kendall Jenner, Bruce Jenner’s daughter (he’s the stepdad on “Keeping Up With The Kardashians“) has recently launched a modeling career.  A recent shoot was set on the beach, and Kendall wore a bikini.  The problem?  She’s only 14 and some concerned moms and dads thought the shoot was inappropriate for such a young girl.  Kendall’s own dad didn’t seem concerned.  She says:

“I am excited to be working as a model, doing what I love to do. My entire family was very supportive, though my dad  was a bit concerned at first, he knows that I am responsible enough that I wouldn’t do anything I wasn’t ready to do, or didn’t want to do.”

She says she’s looking forward to growing up slowly and hitting all her teen milestones.
