Rumor Of Miley Cyrus To Perform At FIFA Closing Ceremony?

Jun - 28 2010 | Sarah Peel | no comments |

Social media can keep rumors buzzing around faster than bees in the summer, so when Twitter broke out with the rumor of Miley Cyrus singing live at the FIFA closing ceremony on July 11th the world took notice. But the main question is if this is fact or a rumor that is floating around?

As of yet, it has neither been confirmed nor denied which means it could go either way. But if it is true, they should make a public announcement shortly before July 11th gets any closer. If it is true, then I am sure that it will do her career some good and perhaps even be family friendly. I would just think she would want a more personal tour or performance and not do so many promotional performances. I doubt that she is getting much out of those when compared to a world tour with her name Miley Cyrus headlining it.

Speaking of Miley Cyrus performing, check out her performing a duet with Bret Michaels. You can also watch when she was on Dancing with the Stars. In addition, check back here for the latest update if she will perform or not.

Demi Lovato In Concert At San Diego Videos

Jun - 28 2010 | Sarah Peel | 2 comments |

Demi Lovato is busy with her tour and new move Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, but she still does put on a live performance. Here is proof that she can sing with the best of them and watch her rock it. The videos are at the bottom of this post as they always are.

I love the fact that people post videos like these for those who cannot see her perform live. It is such a shame for those who cannot, because she can sing and rock it out live. I really feel that Demi Lovato has grown musically and will keep on growing. She isn’t one of those copycats from previous Disney stars and I really find it that she has raw talent. I think she will make it once she outgrows Disney as a full fledge rock star!

You can check out Demi Lovato bloopers with the rest of the cast for Sonny With A Chance. You can also see her perform with We The Kings for more music featuring her. Now for the series of videos that you have been waiting for of Demi live!

The 2010 sofi Awards – NASFT – BSCkids Thoughts at Summer Fancy Food Show

Jun - 28 2010 | Damon Cap | 4 comments |

BSCkids was lucky enough to attend the 56th Summer Fancy Food Show which is put on by The National Association for the Specialty Food Trade, Inc (NASFT) and held at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC.  If you do not think that is lucky enough, we had the opportunity to take a look and taste of the 140 products that were part of the 2010 sofi Silver Finalists.  Now keep in mind these 140 products were chosen from a record field of 2,257 entries across 33 Awards categories by people very far more skilled than either one of us in food.  While the awards themselves will be tomorrow I figured I would let our readers know some of our choices in a few of the categories.  Both my wife and myself attended the event and gave our thoughts and picks below.

Remember these are not all the categories by a long shot, just the ones that we thought would appeal to the BSCkids audience

Chocolate

Knipschildt Chocolatier
Hanna Mini Signature Chocolate Box
- Burnt Caramel with Hawaiian Sea Salt

Both of our votes went to this wonderful chocolate.  Eclat Chocolate made a strong showing but not strong enough to overcome Knipschildt

Cold Beverage

Slow Cow Drink
Slow Cow Drink

Again both of our votes were the same on this one, the ALO Enrich proved a solid second place, but the Slow Cow Drink was refreshing.

Confection

Cocomira Confections, INC.
Maple Crunch

Canadian Food Exporters Association
Butter Baked Goods Raspberry Marshmallows

Split decision here, my wife loved the Maple Crunch while I went with the Raspberry Marshmallows.  She called the marshmallows too simple, while I thought they excelled because they were simple.  The raspberry worked well.

Cookie

Effie’s Homemade
Effie’s Oatcakes

Easy decision here as the Effie’s Oatcakes were one of our favorite overall products of the show.  They go well with either milk or tea and they have a light taste.  The taste does not assault you it massages you.  Effie’s Homemade also has two other wonderful products as well which we will talk about in our wrap up.

Dessert or Dessert Topping

New England Herbal Foods
Danielle Fruit Chips: Roasted Coconut

There was just something so interesting about these fruit chips.  As anyone can tell you I am a coconut person so these were an easy pick for me.  My wife had a harder time as she liked the Ciao Bella Gelato Company Key Lime Graham Gelto Squares as well.  In the end though the coconut fruit chips won out for her as well.

Diet and Lifestyle Product

G.S Gelato and Desserts, Inc
Blood Orange Sorbetto

Another easy one for me as I love blood oranges and another hard one for my wife as she was also fond of the LowCountry Product Sweet Potato Butter and also the Food Should Taste Good, INC Multigrain To-Go Pack.  The flavor was wonderful for the sorbetto and it was on of the products that I could have eaten a lot more of.

So those were our picks for some of the sofi awards this year, I am very curious to see who the winners are tomorrow!

harry voldemort deathly hallows

More Deathly Hallows! We are waiting on the trailer of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to be released later today that we told you about, but USA Today (hey, we got passed up for USA TODAY? This time BSCkids will allow it!) has brought us a nice group of stills from the movie, which is set to be released on November 19th. The Shots here – which come directly from the forthcoming trailer – include menacing looks at Voldemort, dragons (dragons!), Harry’s friends Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, as well as Death Eaters. Accompanying the image release, was this article by USA Today.

If you don’t catch the trailer today on ABC Family (or somehow miss it online afterwards), you will be able to see it attached Twilight: Eclipse (we confirmedfor you would be the same trailer) which hits theaters on June 30th–just a couple of days to go! The second half of Deathly Hallows comes out next Summer on July 15th, closing out the existing JK Rowling Potter novel material for the big screen. Both films will be in 3-D.

The Yggyssey by Daniel Pinkwater – Review

Jun - 27 2010 | Douglas Cobb | no comments |

The ghosts of the La Brea Tarpits Woman, Rudolph Valentino, and Harry Houdini have gone missing. Yggdrasil Birnbaum, the heroine of The Yggyssey,is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery, stop more of the ghosts of Los Angeles from disappearing, and bring them back from wherever they’ve gone. To do this, her adventures will take her to an alternate dimension with her friends where she will encounter – ghosts, witches, Labrador retrievers who are cops, a girl with cat whiskers named Big Audrey, a tyrannical ruler called Uncle, and four-foot-tall elderly people who wear tie-dyed clothes and have flowers in their hair and call themselves “hoopies.”

Going along with her on her fun-to-read adventures (or Odyssey) are Neddie Wentworthstein, the main character of the first novel in the author’s trilogy, The Neddiad, and their mutual friend, Seamus Finn (the son of a famous swash-buckling Hollywood actor). The book is entertaining even before ten-year-old Iggy and her friends go on their Yggdyssey (Odyssey) - in search of the missing ghosts of L.A. Iggy, like her friend, Neddie, also has rich parents. His father made the family fortune through selling shoelaces during WWII, and her father (who had been a movie star first in silents than in talkies) inherited his from Iggy’s grandfather, Colonel Horatius Birnbaum.  Colonel Horatius Birnbaum invented “the first modern super-adhesive,” named “Alpenglue.” She and her family live in a once-grand hotel in Hollywood, where many of the ghosts in the story reside, including her best friend, a black ghost bunny, Chase, who can change sizes at will.

The novel is set in the 1950′s, and there are various references to music of the era, like anti-Communist hillbilly songs, the song “Nature Boy,” and the children’s concern about atomic bombs. They eat five-cent meals at the well-known Clifford Restaurant, and go to a movie theater on Saturdays that’s just for kids that shows movies the entire day.  The children can stay and watch as long as they want to, and are bribed to leave with free copies of (coverless) comic books. They eat donuts, drink coffee, and have adult friends who are somewhat off-the-wall, like a vegetarian guy called Gypsy Boots, and Neddie’s Shaman mentor, Melvin. Two other restaurants in the novel are “a mushroom burger place,” that’s run by “Hindu swamis” and the “Zen Pickle Barrel.”  The ”Zen Pickle Barrel” specializes in serving “Japanese pickles as served in Buddhist monasteries,” and various ice cream desserts, “like a butterscotch-pickle-sundae.”

Iggy goes to a progressive school called Harmonious Reality, where the “teachers are polite, and the kids, while confused and illiterate, are mostly friendly.” Her mother is a psychiatrist to the stars and Neddie and Seamus attend a military school called Brown-Sparrow Military Academy.  Neddie tells her the academy ”has one hundred rules for every one,” that Harmonious Reality has in place. Iggy’s school doesn’t have many rules, and kids can even leave during the day on their own if they want.

What I really like about The Yggysseyis Daniel Pinkwater’s humor is the fact that he understands the expansiveness of children’s minds and imaginations.  He also writes about the strange characters the kids meet and places they travel to in a matter-of-fact way. The children accept these things as a part of their reality, so the readers should, also. Going to an annual ghostly parade that’s generally led by the ghost of the magician and escape artist Harry Houdini, but this year is being led by Theodore Roosevelt’s ghost, as Harry’s has gone missing.  This is all a part of Iggy and her friends’ fun around Halloween and what’s so unusual about that?

The black ghost bunny, Chase, like all of the other ghosts, is sworn to secrecy about where the exact location the ghosts are disappearing to is, but she does tell Iggy that they’re headed to “a big supernatural wing-ding” in “Old New Hackensack” on a mountain known as “the Devil’s Shoestring.” Iggy has Neddie and Seamus follow the bunny throughout the hotel, whistling on Oscar Meyer Weiner whistles whenever they spot the rabbit, until they eventually follow Chase to a bomb shelter with an elevator in it.  Pressing the “Down” button, when the door opens, they find themselves in an entirely different plane of reality, an alternate universe where Neddie promptly gets arrested by the Labrador retriever cops I mentioned earlier in this review. Iggy, Seamus, and Big Audrey, whom they meet in New Yapyap City (where they have traveled to), have to rescue Neddie from Juvenile Hole, where they try to make children into better consumers by sitting them in front of televisions and making them watch programs with a lot of commercials in.  They do this to try and brainwash them into wanting to buy the stuff advertised.

Neddie’s friends must rescue him from the Juvenile Hole before they can continue on to the Devil’s Shoestring. They now have to find Chase once again, besides locating the missing ghosts, so that they can travel back to their own world.  They have no other way to return to L.A. They have adventures with the hoopies, a witch “with a million cats” who feeds children hot apple pie that changes them also into cats, and they meet and help a man who is trying to get a magical amulet of a turtle so he can use it to stop the evil magic of a council of witches.  These witches have taken over power, in the guise of being advisers to the land’s ruler, Uncle.

The Yggessey is a funny, wonderful sequel to Pinkwater’s novel, The Neddiad. I highly recommend it.

Selena Gomez in Wizards of Waverly Place – Captain Jim Bob Sherwood – Promo Pictures

Jun - 26 2010 | Damon Cap | no comments |

Selena Gomez will be doing what her character, Alex, does best on Wizards of Waverly Place.  Being a thorn in the side of David Henrie’s character Justin as they work together on an issue of the Captain Jim Bob Sherwood comic.  I love when these two get a storyline that keeps them together for most of the episode, having them work together on a comic book is going to be pure fun and anytime Wizardsbrings a fictional character to life it is good for some laughs.  Based on the pictures are they going to act out the story with Justin playing the villain?  Or will Selena have her character Alex play the villain?  Tough to tell but they sure are some interesting pictures and what the heck is Harper dressed as?  With her it is always so hard to tell.

This is an episode that I am looking forward to and you can see Wizards of Waverly Place, Captain Jim Bob Sherwood on the Disney Channel July 23rd.  You can also check out Selena Gomez on the set of Monte Carlo.  Check out the promo pictures below

WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE – “Captain Jim Bob Sherwood” – Justin is thrilled to learn he has been selected to write an issue of the Captain Jim Bob Sherwood comic, but quickly loses enthusiasm after he discovers Alex has been selected to illustrate it. Forced to work together the two can’t agree on what the comic should be about, so Alex uses magic to bring Captain Jim Bob Sherwood to life in a new episode of “Wizards of Waverly Place,” premiering FRIDAY, JULY 23 (8:30-9:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart move over – Jasper Time!

Jun - 26 2010 | Jay Tomio | no comments |

Okay, so Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner have to hog the covers to major magazines (and interiors), not only that, but they also get all of the puzzle love, but not any more! I ran into this new puzzle which actually is pretty cool because it apparently shows a bit of story, and features Jasper Hale (portrayed in the films by Jackson Rathbone). It’s actually a flashback scene that also features Maria (who by the way we posted a new still of from Eclipse earlier today) Nettie, and Lucy.

Remember, Twilight Eclipse hits theaters on June 30th. Over at BSC we cover the films extensively, the latest being two new images of Edward and Bella. Harry Potter fans also have reason to go check out Eclipse, due to the news we brought you that a new Deathly Hallows trailer will be attached to it! We have since, however, told you that you can catch the very same trailer on June 28th, when ABC Family debuts its new series, Huge.

More Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows trailer news! Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner – more from EW!

Jun - 25 2010 | Jay Tomio | 9 comments |

Yesterday, we shared with you the covers to the issue Entertainment Weekly that comes out today, which offered two choices of covers and featured the big three of Twilight in Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Stewart got one to herself while the leaders of team-Edward and team-Jacob had to share one. Today we have a look at one of the interior images that features the three – vampire, human, and werewolf – together.

Bella, Edward and Jacob are headed our way to theaters on June 30th, when Eclipse – the third chapter in the Twilight Saga – hits theaters and Summit Entertainment is making sure nobody doesn’t know, as promos have been coming out strong for 6 months, including a new image of Stewart and Pattinson that we posted yesterday over at BSC. Fans also have a extra reason to go check out the movie, because as we told you earlier this week, a new trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will air before Eclipse.

Can You See What I See? Bingo Link by Gamewright – Review

Jun - 25 2010 | Damon Cap | no comments |

We have been playing this game for a while on Family Game Night and I really want to make sure I let the world aware of how fun this game really is.  As you can tell from the description below the game has you calling out a picture on your board and trying to match two of the same edge colors with a line of covered pictures.  The strategy is that you want to make sure you pick pictures that allow you to win before your opponent does.

What I loved about this gave is that even though Gamewright lists an age range of 6 and up your younger player can still play, they just will not get the full concept of the strategy of blocking other players.  It is real fun that way as well because my 4 year old will pick pictures that he links while trying to get across the board to the same color lending a bit of randomness for the other players.  When playing with just my 6 year old things get interesting as he is able to beat me a fair amount of the time, which is a nice confidence builder as well.  Based on past review you know that I am a big fan of games that eliminate the randomness factor to be able to win and Bingo Link is all about strategy without being frustrating.  The two boys have had this game as their favorite for a while now and every time I have asked the question, “Hey who wants to play Bingo Link?”, I have yet to hear anything besides, “Yes!”

The game pieces and bingo boards for Bingo Link are top notch as you would expect from Gamewright with heavy cardboard and clear plastic bingo pieces that are easy for little hands to use.  The only thing I would have liked to have seen is a different type of box.  Yes I know I am being a bit picky but the the current box opens like a pizza box where I prefer the boxes with a top and bottom.  It just makes it easier to keep in good condition if you are letting the children open the game.  If this is the worst thing I have to say about the game I will consider this a must buy for the children.  So go out and pick it up for your children just watch the plastic pieces if you have a baby in the house like we do.

    How To Play
Can you see a trumpet? How about a rabbit that’s pink? Now mark a path between them in this clever game of links! Take turns calling out objects and marking off the spaces. Every board has the same pictures but found in different places. You don’t want to help another player win, so be careful what you name. Be the first to link two sides together and Bingo! – You’ve won the game!

    About This Game
We love games with simple rules that offer infinitely engaging play. Such is the case with Bingo Link. From the moment we first played, we knew it not only had the makings of a great Gamewright game, but also that it was the perfect complement to Walter Wick’s amazing Can You See What I See? book series. The combination of four uniquely shaped game boards with 61 objects from Walter’s visually dazzling collection makes this a game that’s not only a treat for the eyes, but also an endlessly repeatable challenge for players of all ages!
