Taylor Swift On Japan’s Version Elle

Jun - 02 2010 | Sarah Peel | no comments |

The country sweetheart that everyone loves, Taylor Swift is on the cover of Japan’s version of Elle magazine. Looking mature and sweet; she does the cover justice in every sense possible for her to do.

Looking fabulous and chic on the cover as always, she is such a good role model to have. She always acts and dresses classy, even in some of the worse times for her. It is such a shame that they do not sell Japan’s version of Elle in other countries. I know many people would love to read interview, including myself.

By the way, you may have not heard yet that she will be the new CoverGirl spokeswoman. She also has had a comic book about her career highlights that will go out in July 2010, so be out on the look out!

Instructions by Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess – Review

Jun - 02 2010 | Kerry | no comments |

Neil Gaiman writes books for everyone; even his children’s books are appealing to adults.  This is one of them.  He walks us through a fairy tale adventure that is short but important because it teaches how to get along in the world by treating others like we would want to be treated and trying to understand why other people behave the way they do.   Most of all, the narrator reminds us to always have hope and believe in ourselves and our own value in the world.  Animals follow on the journey and can be friendly or harmful, and sometimes need our help, which we should always give.

There are some very clever illustrations by Charles Vess, who has won several awards for his artwork in other books, including comics.  A giant eagle with eyes full of wisdom carries the traveler and his cat companion through blurry yellow clouds, and a grayish brown fish that looks startlingly real allows the traveler to ride restfully against his fin as he swims, we imagine, very purposefully towards the traveler’s unknown destination.  Vess has a website where he writes about how he designs a painting, and Gaiman’s site has podcasts and games based on his other books.  They make a great creative team!

Miley Cyrus does cover of Dominical and Viva Magazines

Jun - 01 2010 | Damon Cap | 1 comment |

For some reason I do not think that Miley Cyrus looks as adult on the cover of Dominical Magazine as she does on the cover of Billboard but maybe that is just me.  What do all of you think?  She still looks quite stunning but I think it is the hair that makeup that does not make her look as old.  If I could read Spanish I might be able to give you some more insight, but for now you just have the nice photo to look at.

Miley Cyrus is also on the cover of Viva Magazine which it seems used pictures from the same photo shoot, but that is nothing that I can confirm.  I just can not always seem to track down the original magazine websites when they are in a different language

New Disney Band Aids

Jun - 01 2010 | Sarah Peel | no comments |

The Disney Company has come up with a few unique designs for the brand Band Aid. These cute little designs stick to the classic theme that Walt Disney created when he started the company.

This should make parents and grandparents alike very happy and kids will love these cute band aids. Plus is a smart move to give Disney a much-needed boost.

You can begin to buy them at Target stores starting in July and at other stores later on in December. The price is set to $2.99 per box, which will feature the trademark face of Mickey Mouse on it.

The band-aids will feature Mickey, Minnie and even Donald Duck. While they are limited on which ones they feature, they still are very cute for people to use on there kids.

Don’t forget to check out a sneak peek at Dance Star Mickey from Toy Fair 2010.

You can view the designs below.

G.I. Joe – Big Lob’s move is for the win!!

Jun - 01 2010 | Jay Tomio | no comments |

I collect G.I. Joe figures, specifically the ARAH o-ring figures. Where I deviate with many collectors that have clung on to the passion for this long is that my interest is really in the figures themselves, their nostalgic trip, and their value in representation and presentation. While I am fully aware of elements like scarcity, variants, character and figure history; I am not at all somebody who can or even has an interest in breaking down figures by their individual parts, in terms of being able to get angry if a particular hip mold was just used for the 22nd time in the last 8 years, nor can I tell if you if a particular figure was made of a softer or lower grade of plastic.

The only thing I can tell you about Big Lob is that he’s awesome.

big lob

Can even I tell he resembles Mercer perhaps too much? Perhaps, and for people like me who never saw either except in the ’87 animated film (that was nearing the time I’d break from the toys, as the movie essentially killed G.I. Joe as fans knew it before) even more so. For myself, I loved Slaughter’s Renegades (remember when they and Falcon broke into the Terrordrome—awesome!) and especially Mercer, who was the ex-Cobra Viper, but it still works for me because finally we have a character that fans have been asking for, and beyond even that, they even released him in vintage style. If there are two characters that seem to be consistently requested by fans – especially holdovers from the film – it’s Big Lob and Pythona. What does that tell us? It tells us that the stigma and fallout from the ’87 movie ultimately doesn’t play a huge roll in what figures we want to see. Pythona usually tops lists and she represents everything most people hate about the movie.

With Big Lob being the G.I. Joe Club’s free (with membership) figure this year they’ve finally completed the Rawhides: Chuckles, Jinx, Tunnel Rat, Law and Order, Falcon, and now Big Lob. One wonders how prominent they would have been if the movie ended up representing a new platform and era for G.I. Joe (where Falcon would have continued the succession of popular frontmen for the team – Hawk, Duke, and to some extent Flint). Chuckles and Jinx played or continue to play significant roles in IDW relaunch (I love the Cobra series) so some did pan out, and want I love here is they kept a bit to character’s roots (and only appearance), giving him a grenade launcher sure, but they also have him rocking the bandolier with the grenade on it so you can’t miss it. Remember:

This isn’t the first time I’ve talked about this release (you can check out my initial thoughts over at Vogue immunity), but it is my first in possession of the figure, and I can now say it passes both the eye and in-hand test. At some point, you have to be happy with what you asked for, and if you’re an o-ring guy like myself, getting Big Lob in 2010? This is all win. I put him right next to the rest of the movie figures I have, the rawhides, and yes, Mercer and the renegades. No love loss.
