Selena Gomez (Dream Out Loud) and Madonna (Material Girl)

By on March 13, 2010

Madonna and her 13 year old daughter, Lourdes Leon, will be launching a fashion collection for teens which will be called Material Girl.  Not a big surprise on the name if you know Madonna’s work.

Material Girl pieces will range from $12 to $40 and the collection will include shirts, skirts, shoes, jewelry, handbags, and other items.  Madonna and daughter partnered with Iconix, a brand which is also works with Bongo, Candie’s and higher-end designers like Badgley Mischka.  The collaboration with Iconix may include perfume and other beauty products in the future.  Material Girl will be coming to Macy’s stores and online this August, which is a few weeks after Selena Gomez releases her Dream Out Loud Line on July 15th.

Material Girl should be more trendy and Dream Out Loud was described by Selena Gomez as a collection that will have a

“pretty, feminine, and bohemian” feel.  ”I want the pieces that can be easy to dress up or down, and the fabrics being eco-friendly and organic are super important,” Selena continues. “Also, the tags will all have some of my inspirational quotes on them. I’m just looking to send a good message.”

It will be interesting to see if the Selena Gomez Dream Out Loud brand is backed by Disney by allowing her to wear some of her clothing on Wizards of Waverly Place.  Do you think that Material Girl will cut into the sales of Dream Out Loud?  Personally I think that they can both exist but that Selena has a bit more of the demographic already following her which will help her sales.
