Mouse Guard & David Petersen in USA TODAY

mouse guard david petersen

I love seeing this! One of my favorite comics gets major love at USA Today. Why is that a big deal? Well, it’s not Spidey, Bats, or Supes, but instead is David Petersen’s Mouse Guard. It’s not just a brief nod either, but a pretty decent sized write-up where among other things Petersen is quoted both as aspiring to a story that consciously attempts to avoid being dated (citing Shrek as an opposite due to its references), and some real-life elements making their way into a book that’s very much a heroic fantasy.

Make sure you go read it! You know, a lot of what he says reminds me of what I used to see bestselling fantasy novelist RA Salvatore (Drizzt) say in various interviews (and perhaps even direct communication with me at some point–I forget, the mind wanders!).

I love seeing comics talked about at big time – outside of the choir – venues, especially when it’s actually about the comics themselves. Kids…Parents, if you don’t have Mouse Guard on your shelves, correct yourself now!

Jennifer Stone of Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars twitter chat

Mar - 26 2010 | Damon Cap | 14 comments |

Jennifer Stone has been busy these last few days.  She dropped by Radio Disney yesterday to talk about her new movie, Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars.  She also did a twitter chat with Popstar yesterday as well.  You can see all of the questions and answers over at Jennifer’s twitter account.  You can check out one of my favorite highlights where Jennifer tells us that Harriet is the character that is closest to her real personality.

@NickJGrl @popstarmagazine I’m more like Harriet than any other character I’ve played, but Harriet hasn’t learned certain life lessons yet.

Remember that Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars will be on tonight at 8 pm so make sure you catch it.

Based on the popular Louise Fitzhugh book, Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars starring Jennifer Stone (Wizards of Waverly Place) starts off with aspiring writer Harriet in a competition with her nemesis Marion for the class blogger role.  Both girls must post blog entries everyday for their classmates to read and the writer with the most hits wins.  Harriet starts off slow, but she is determined to beat Marion.  When her movie producer father signs teen heartthrob Skander Hill to star in his next film, Harriet thinks that she has found the perfect subject to write about.  But will her stories about the “real” Skander jeopardize his career and her father’s movie?

Selena Gomez Performing in Lilith Tour

Mar - 26 2010 | Jay Tomio | no comments |

Sarah McLachlan’s Lilith Tour – the 2010 edition – has added Selena Gomez as a performer! I say the 2010 edition because the tour hasn’t been around since 1999, after starting in 1996. You can check out the official site for more updates, but thus far it looks like Gomez is joining the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Martina McBride, Erykah Badu, Sheryl Crow, Mary J. Blige, Sugar Land, Norah Jones and many, many more.

It looks like the tour will kick-off on June 27th in Calgary. I looked at the first half-dozen or so tour dates that have the line-ups listed for each city to see if Selena was on the schedule, but she doesn’t seem to be yet. We will let you know when we know which cities and dates she will be performing!

Justin Bieber Thanks Fans for My World

Mar - 26 2010 | Damon Cap | no comments |

We at BSCkids think it’s very likely that Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0 will be #1 on next week’s BillBoards, and although he’s been tirelessly promoting the album’s release (performing on LettermanThe View, on Nightline for an interview, chatted with Katie Couric, on Sirius, and MTV), he knows its his fans that will take him to the mountain.

So, from the mountain, Justin released this message on youtube to let fans know that My World 2.0 is now out, and to thank them for all of the support (particularly pointing out the online support)..He also lets you know that you could win the golden ticket to see him perform out in the Bahamas!

Dreamworks – “Shrek Forever After” Character banners!

Mar - 25 2010 | Jocelin Cap | no comments |

Two new character banners for Dreamworks’ Shrek Forever After, and the slogans are pretty funny! Shrek Forever After is both the 4th and (reportedly) final film chronicling the adventures of our favorite Ogre and crew!

A couple of weeks ago we got our first (full) Forever After trailer. Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz are back as Shrek & Fiona; Murphy returns as Donkey, and expect to hear the new voices of Kathy Griffin, Kristin Schaal and Jon Hamm when film hits theaters on May 21st! We got our first looks at Shrek 4 last year via USA Today, which was awhile ago, so I love seeing these new images which were debuted by Yahoo.

Justin Bieber – Pics from Rosemont

Mar - 25 2010 | Damon Cap | 2 comments |

Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas weren’t the only one’s performing last night! Justin Bieber was in Chicago at the Rosemont rocking the house, celebrating this week’s release of his second album, My World 2.0., and below are some pics from the event

I’m thinking Bieber has taken the title of busiest cat in show business at least for this week, as yesterday we brought video of him performing on Letterman, and before that he found the time to hit The View twice, was on Nightline for an interview, chatted with Katie Couric, got nice on the drums and piano on Sirius, and strolled into MTV to show off his flow. Think he’s taking the rest of the year off? Nope. His North American Tour starts this Summer!

American Idol – Miley Cyrus Video and Pics

Mar - 25 2010 | Jay Tomio | 5 comments |

Here is the Miley Cyrus video from last night’s American Idol! Earlier this morning we posted the performance by Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas (“Make A Wave”). Miley performed “When I Look at You”, after serving as the Idol mentor the night before. This video is provided by our big brother-site BSCreview. Regarding the night before, I have to take back my apprehension from my previous post, she was no worse than any other we’ve seen, and I think she handled herself and the contestants rather well.

If you read BSCkids regularly (and who doesn’t?), you know that “When I Look at You” will be in Miley’s next movie, The Last Song, as we’ve posted the music video for it here before. Miley has been busy promoting the film, appearing on the The View and Good Morning America recently. Enjoy!

As BSCkids told you would happen earlier this week, Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas performed “Make A Wave” on American Idol last night! On a night that included a performance by Miley Cyrus (Check that out now!)), the duo performed their song on the important elimination night, as the top ten finalists get to go on tour later in the year. The video is from from our big brother site BSCreview.

As we’ve told you before “Make A Wave” will also be featured on Disney’s Oceans in April. If you love the performance, we also recently brought you the behind-the-scenes “making of” for the video and their performance of the song at Epcot earlier this year!

In case you missed it, Lovato also recently announced that she will be going on a South American tour very soon!

Justin Bieber – “Baby” on David Letterman

Mar - 24 2010 | Jay Tomio | 10 comments |

Justin Bieber hit late night last night, performing his “Baby” on David Letterman. As we’ve seen him do through out his several promotional spots, he also performed the parts that Ludacris does in the music video. Justin has been working hard getting word out about his new album (out now!), My World 2.0., hitting several high profile spots like The View, talking with Katie Couric, an interview on Nightline just naming a few.

BSCkids brought you the official images of Justin’s visit to The View (that would be twice, back-to-back, which had never been done before). Justin’s not done with late night TV either, as remember he has an appearance on Saturday Night Live coming up in April with Tina Fey!
