Demi Lovato to Grey’s Anatomy

Mar - 29 2010 | Jay Tomio | 1 comment |

BSCkids loves Demi Lovato, so we are excited to tell you that she will be guest starring on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy! If you ask us, Grey’s Anatomy needs some star power after Heigl was confirmed to leave, so maybe Demi’s guest one-shot will do the trick! TV Guide is reporting that the Sonny With a Chance star (who lately has been teaming up with Joe Jonas to make even more waves) will soon be expanding her acting horizons the popular series, which the report indicates is a favorite of hers. What role will she play? According to the Guide:

(a) patient at Seattle Grace/Mercy West who will be treated by Alex (Justin Chambers) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) for possible schizophrenia!

The episode will be air during the all important May Sweeps period. Will you be tuning in? BSCkids has been all over recent Lovato news, including her recent performance with Joe Jonas on American Idol, and a behind-the-scenes feature of the making of their “Make a Wave” song. Earlier this month, Lovato revealed that she is also getting ready for a South American tour soon. Looks (and sounds) like a lot of Lovato in 2010!

José the Red Mummy by Brendan Connell – BSCkids Short Story!

Mar - 29 2010 | Brendan Connell | no comments |

(for Desmond)

In the deserts of Mexico there was a little cabin. It had one window and a chimney. Inside the cabin lived José, the Red Mummy.

He would walk through the desert, looking for food. He ate cactus fruit and pine nuts. Sometimes he found lizards and ate them too. He had mummy magic, and when he blew, the desert was covered with dust storms.

But José was very lonely, because he had no friends. When he walked up to someone, they got scared and ran away. Even the donkeys and rabbits did not want to talk to him.

José  was sad and wanted to cry. But mummies don’t cry, even if they are red.

One day when José was walking through the desert, a big crow came and landed in front of him.

“Hello,” the crow said, “my name is Allan.”

   “My name is José.”

“I come from Canada,” Allan, the crow said. “I am a bandit.”

“I come from here,” José replied. “I come from Mexico. I am a mummy.”

“Why are you so sad?” Allan asked.

“Because I am lonely out here in the desert. People run away from me and don’t want to talk.”

“That is because you are too polite. You are a mummy, so you should do what you want to. I will be your friend. Listen to me and we can make a lot of money.”

José  was happy and told the crow he would do what he wanted.

Allan flew up into the air and after about an hour came back.

“A group of men is coming,” he said. “They are riding mules and look like they have money. Let’s scare them and take what they have.”

José  agreed and when the men arrived he walked up to them and moaned.

“A mummy!” everyone shouted. “It’s a red mummy!”

They were very scared and threw down everything they had, so they could ride away faster.

Allan looked through their bags. Inside there were tortillas, cheese and candy and also a lot of silver coins.

“See,” he told José, “now we can eat dinner and we have money also.”

That night they had a big meal of tortillas and cheese and for dessert ate a lot of candy.

José  was happy and had very good dreams.

The next day they robbed another caravan and got more money and food. After that, they did the same thing every day, robbing anyone who passed through the desert. They were bandits.

“We will soon be very rich,” Allan said “Then we can buy a big house in a big city and be happy.”

   “But I am happy now.”

“You will be happier later,” Allan said, and then flew up in the air to look for more people to rob.

After a while, he came back and said that there were a lot of people coming towards them.

“They are riding in trucks,” he said. “They must have a lot of money and candy.”

“But we have a lot of money in the cabin,” José said. “And too much candy isn’t good for you.”

Allan laughed. “You can never have enough money and candy,” he said.

Soon the trucks were there and José went up to them and moaned, to scare everyone. But the trucks were full of policemen, and they were not scared. José ran away and the police grabbed Allan and put chains around his feet.

      “Help! Help!” Allan cried.

José  turned around and began to blow. Using his mummy magic he caused a big dust storm so the policemen couldn’t see. Then he broke the chains away from Allan’s feet, because he was very strong, and carried him away.

Soon they were far off, and out of danger.

“We need to leave,” José said.
“But what about all the money and candy that we left in the cabin?” Allan asked.
“We don’t need it,” José said.
“Yes,” Allan agreed, “we can go to South America and be happy.”
    “But I can’t fly.”
    “Yes you can. Watch.”

Allan cut off the big sharp leaves of a yucca plant and tied them to José’s arms. José began to flap his arms and rose up into the air. Then the crow and the mummy flew down to South America where they ate fruit and lived by a waterfall and were both very happy.

Zhu Zhu Pets

Mar - 29 2010 | Kerry | no comments |

zhu zhu pets

Our cat friends are alternately amused and annoyed by the latest addition to our ‘animal’ family, Jilly the Zhu Zhu Pet.  Jilly is a toy hamster, and according to the Zhu Zhu Pets website, “captain of the pep squad.”  She squeals and chatters as she rolls around the floor, turning herself around when she bumps into the furniture or wall.  She is super cute and super noisy – she says things like “ready go!” and “ooo weee!” – I wish she had a volume control!  My daughter bought Jilly a Giant Hamster Fun House, also by Zhu Zhu Pets, so Jilly doesn’t end up under the sofa or in a cat’s mouth.  It has a tunnel with a room on each end – a kitchen/bedroom combination and a bathroom.  When she runs into the bathroom, she makes a toilet flushing sound, which is hilarious.

There are nine Zhu Zhu Pets to choose from, and lots of accessories you can buy to play along with them.   Our Jilly has a red car bed with a blanket that she can push around.  This weekend, we rented the Zhu Zhu Pets game for the Nintendo DS, which makes the same cute noises – with volume control, of course! – as Jilly does.  You can unlock hamsters to take care of and take on adventures through mazes, and find baby Zhu Zhu Pets to win trophies.  My daughter hints that baby Zhu Zhu Pets would make great Easter gifts – and why not?  I don’t think she’ll be less hyper playing with a baby Zhu Zhu than she would after eating a lot of chocolate, though, and neither will our cats, so I expect a non-restful Easter Sunday, with a happy ten year old girl and excited cat friends.

Justin Bieber – “Baby” at Kids Choice

Mar - 28 2010 | Damon Cap | 9 comments |

I have been a little late to the game lately, but I wanted to point you the way of the Justin Bieber and Rihanna performance from the Kids Choice Awards last night.  While you know we are Justin Bieber fans here at the site, I want to say Rihanna can bring down the house also.

Well Justin’s performance had the kids going crazy in the audience, and while I think Justin held down the rapping part I would have loved to see Ludacris pop out and do his part.  Justin can really perform though and you can check out the video below to see him in action.

Make sure you also check out the list of winners from the Kids Choice Awards here.  While I am happy that Selena Gomez won favorite TV Actress I am disappointed that Wizards of Waverly Place didn’t pull in a win.

Taylor Lautner (not Robert Pattinson) & Kristen Stewart – Kids’ Choice Cutest Couple

Mar - 28 2010 | Jay Tomio | 8 comments |

EDIT – Sorry about that, must have been real early, as our winners list also says Bellla and Jacob and that’s what I was going off of! I blame Team Edward for not hustling the troops!

You can’t escape Twilight anywhere! Nope, Twilight via the Cutest Couple category and the strength of Robert Pattinson (Edward) & Kristen Stewart (Bella) sneak into Nickelodeon’s 2010 Kids’ Choice Award and come out with a victory. Kidding aside, Twilight actually had a great chance of winning regardless, as another nominee in the category was Stewart (again!) and Taylor Lautner’s Jacob, also from Twilight.

Twilight defeated Twilight and two other duos, one of which was Neytiri & Jake (played by Zoe Saldana & Sam Worthington) from James Cameron’s record breaking blockbuster, Avatar. Not only that, but Edward and Bella got the nod over the first couple of the United States of America! President Barack Obama & First Lady Michelle Obama were both beat down by the power of Twilight, Team Edward and K-Stew.

Make sure can check out the full winner’s list from last night’s festivities, which was hosted by Kevin James. I’m hoping to have some video up today featuring some of the performances, so check back in with BSCkids for those later!

The Last Airbender – 2 New Trailers!

Mar - 27 2010 | Jay Tomio | no comments |

Two new trailers, one a Japanese teaser, for The Last Airbender have hit the web (video via our big brother site BSCreview). Avatar: The Last Airbender (or Avatar: The Legend of Aang) was a popular cartoon series on Nickelodeon that first aired from 2005-2008, that is now getting the full blown, big budget, movie treatment. It’s directed by M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs, Unbreakable) and stars Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone, Dev Patel, Cliff Curtis, Shaun Toub, and Jessica Andres.

You may have seen a commercial for The Last Airbender during the Super Bowl (which we have at BSC). It’s scheduled for a July 10th release, so be on the lookout this summer to see what may have been your favorite cartoon on the big screen!

What’s it About? - Air, Water, Earth, Fire. Four nations tied by destiny when the Fire Nation launches a brutal war against the others. A century has passed with no hope in sight to change the path of this destruction. Caught between combat and courage, Aang (Noah Ringer) discovers he is the lone Avatar with the power to manipulate all four elements. Aang teams with Katara (Nicola Peltz), a Waterbender, and her brother, Sokka (Jackson Rathbone), to restore balance to their war-torn world.

More Shrek “Forever After” posters from Dreamworks!

Mar - 27 2010 | Jocelin Cap | 1 comment |

More Shrek Forever After character posters to add to the ones we posted yesterday. Today we get 4 new characters featured, including everyone’s favorite Donkey! Accompanying the character images are funny slogans, though my favorite is still yesterday’s “Where’s my Witches?”

Shrek Forever After will be in theaters on May 21st and returns Donkey (Eddie Murphy), Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz as Shrek & Fiona, & will introduce the voices of Kathy Griffin, Kristin Schaal and Jon Hamm! We got our first Shrek 4 trailer earlier his month, so check that out if you missed it before!

What’s Shrek 4 About?

After challenging an evil dragon, rescuing a beautiful princess and saving your in-laws’ kingdom, what’s an ogre to do? Well, if you’re Shrek, you suddenly wind up a domesticated family man. Instead of scaring villagers away like he used to, a reluctant Shrek now agrees to autograph pitch forks. What’s happened to this ogre’s roar?

Longing for the days when he felt like a “real ogre,” Shrek is duped into signing a pact with the smooth-talking dealmaker, Rumpelstiltskin. Shrek suddenly finds himself in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumpelstiltskin is king and Shrek and Fiona have never met. Now, it’s up to Shrek to undo all he’s done in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world and reclaiming his one True Love.
