Pixar and Disney just released a new image through Empire from Toy Story 3! ABC Family 25 Days of Christmas – Day 16

Dec - 16 2009 | Damon Cap | no comments |

HappyFeet_WarnerBros_jpgBack in business and my kids will be happy, from 6 PM onward tonight we have some Christmas specials.  I always have a soft spot for Mickey’s Christmas Carol, but I think I have mentioned that before.  I have not seen Happy Feet personally, but my wife and kids did not seem to like it.  Hey I think it looks good, but you can not go against the whole family.

(6:00-7:00 PM ET/PT) PINOCCHIO’S CHRISTMAS – (*See Saturday, December 12, for description.)

(7:00-7:30 PM ET/PT) MICKEY’S CHRISTMAS CAROL – (*See Tuesday, December 8, for description.)

(7:30-8:00 PM ET/PT) WINNIE THE POOH & CHRISTMAS TOO (*See Tuesday, December 8, for description.)

(8:00-10:30 PM ET/PT) HAPPY FEET

In the great nation of Emperor Penguins you’re nobody unless you can sing – which is unfortunate for Mumble (Elijah Wood), who can’t sing a note. He was born dancing to his own tune…tapdancing. His one friend, Gloria (Brittany Murphy), happens to be the best singer around and she struggles with his strange “hippity-hoppity” ways. Mumble is just too different – especially for Noah the Elder (Hugo Weaving), the stern leader of Emperor Land, who ultimately casts him out of the community. Away from home for the first time, Mumble meets the Adelie Amigos. Led by Ramon (Robin Williams), the Adelies instantly embrace Mumble’s cool dance moves. In Adelie Land, Mumble seeks the counsel of Lovelace the Guru (also voiced by Robin Williams), a crazy-feathered Rockhopper penguin who will answer any of life’s questions for the price of a pebble. Together with Lovelace and the Amigos, Mumble sets out across vast landscapes and, after some epic encounters, proves that by being true to yourself, you can make all the difference in the world. Only nine more days left until Christmas and I will be disappointed when this year of 25 Days of Christmas is over.

Dec - 15 2009 | Jay Tomio | no comments |

The nominees for the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards have been announced, including for the category of Best Animated Feature Film. Coraline, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Princess and the Frog and Up. Two of these, Up and Coraline, were also recently recognized by The American Film Institute as two of the ten outstanding films (overall!) of 2009.

The Award ceremonies will take place on air Sunday, January 17th and will air on NBC. As an aside, Disney’s The Princess and the Frog came out last week and took home last weekend’s box office crown. Up and Coraline are also both already out on Blu Ray.

Congrats to all of those who were behind the nominees!

ABC Family 25 Days of Christmas – Day 15

Dec - 15 2009 | Damon Cap | no comments |

homealone2Back on track with the holiday specials tonight.  Even though I am not a huge fan of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys, they gave it a try.  It fails with the animation and the CGI, which does not endear you to any of the characters, in my opinion.  I think they would have been better served by doing it stop-animation style updated like they did with A Miser Brothers’ Christmas, even though I am not keen on the actual story for that show either.  We also get something of a tradition with Home Alone 2, which I always seem to catch during the holidays.

(7:00-8:30 PM ET/PT) RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER AND THE ISLAND OF MISFIT TOYS – (*See Wednesday, December 9, for description.)

(8:30-10:30 PM ET/PT) HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK

In “Home Alone 2: Lost In New York,” the sequel to “Home Alone,” Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) is back, and this time his playground is New York City. Separated from the rest of his family — who are on vacation in Florida — Kevin uses his father’s credit card to have a grand “Big Apple” time! Soon, though, Kevin discovers that the robbers he foiled once before are out of prison, in New York, and planning a huge toy store heist. Kevin sets out to deter them once again, only this time the robbers are equally as determined. (Live Action)

I really love Home Alone and Home Alone 2.  I started to enjoy them more after seeing them a few times where it dawned on me how good they really were.  Plus they do feel like holiday shows, both of them, for some reason.

ABC Family 25 Days of Christmas – Day 14

Dec - 14 2009 | Damon Cap | no comments |

Mary-PoppinsTonight is a Winnie the Pooh night with two ABC Family Premieres.  First we get Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day and then it is immediately with Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too.  Hmm seems we are running out of holiday specials, because neither one is really holiday related.  I like Winnie the Pooh, but I think we should have something holiday related during the 25 days of Christmas.  Or if not that, something that is a yearly tradition like the Harry Potter movies.  Following the two Pooh shows, we get a showing of Mary Poppins, which has never been a favorite of mine.  I know I am probably offending a bunch of people by saying that, but it did not have any appeal to me after watching it a few times.

(7:00-7:30 PM ET/PT) WINNIE THE POOH AND THE BLUSTERY DAY ABC Family Premiere

Winnie the Pooh follows Christopher Robin and his animal friends as a storm topples Owl’s tree house and brings a drenching rain. While the flood waters rise, Pooh has nightmares about honey-stealing creatures called Heffalumps and Woozles. (Animated)

(7:30-8:00 PM ET/PT) WINNIE THE POOH AND TIGGER TOO ABC Family Premiere

To break Tigger’s habit of “bouncing in” on them, his friends plot to get him lost in the woods and literally “take the bounce out of him”. However, it’s his friends who become lost and Tigger “finds” them. After Tigger and Roo become stuck high in a tree, Tigger promises Pooh and Christopher Robin that he’ll never bounce again if only Christopher Robin can help get them down-which he does. But Tigger’s friends cannot hold Tigger to his vow after seeing how sad he has become without his “bounce”. Soon they are all bouncing for joy together. (Animated)

(8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) MARY POPPINS

In one of the greatest family classics of all time, two rambunctious children of a practical banker who believes a home should be run as tightly as the bank where he works, come under the care of a magical nanny – Mary Poppins. Stars Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. (Live Action)

I am wondering if I can get a hold of the scheduling people at ABC Family and help them figure out something for next year that gives us a holiday special each and every night, excluding Harry Potter and Pixar weekends.  Can we buy a few more specials to fill in the gaps?  They probably know better than I do with what really works, but I wouldn’t mind giving it a shot.  Isn’t the Star Wars Holiday Special still up for grabs?

Disney’s Princess and the Frog #1 at Box Office

Dec - 14 2009 | Jay Tomio | no comments |

princess and the frog movieThe North American Box Office is estimating that Disney’s The Princess and the Frog will have the top spot for its opening weekend! Disney’s classic animation style is always tops for me regardless, and I can’t wait to see it. The $25 million figure seems soft to me (#1 or not), but I’ll be interested in seeing how the word-of-mouth effects this week and next weekend’s figures. In other parts of the BSC Empire, a review can be found that expresses love for the film!

BSCkids hasn’t been around long but we have posted our share of The Princess and the Frog content.–so make sure you check all of that out to either get you primed to see the film or to relive what you already saw!
