Miley Cyrus – “The Climb” Removed as Grammy Nominee

Dec - 11 2009 | Jay Tomio | no comments

At the beginning of the month, BSCkids told you that Miley Cyrus had been nominated for a Grammy for her song “Climb” in the category Best Song Written for Motion Picture, Television, or Other Visual Media. This is no longer the case according to the blog of Spike Jonze (who directed Where the Wild Things Are!).

Spike Jonze posted a message he received:

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all well. In an unexpected twist, one of the announced Grammy
candidates for Best Song written for a Soundtrack has been disqualified
after the fact (Miley Cyris in fact).

The nomination then goes to the song with the next-highest initial vote
count, which is Karen O and the Kids’ “All is Love”.

Great news all around- it will be included in all ballots going soon to
Grammy voters and we are working on a press release now.

Please let me know your thoughts and questions- still brand new info to us
but we are diving into it now.

Thank you and congrats!

Congratulations to Karen O. here is th song (not an official video):

Rolling Stone, however, quoted sources close to Cyrus saying that they themselves initiated the removal:

But according to sources close to Cyrus, “The Climb” was never disqualified from the ballot, and Miley did not write the tune; Jessi Alexander and Jon Mabe did. It was Miley’s camp that actually withdrew the nomination, our source says, because the song was not eligible for contention (it was evidently not written specifically for the film). The decision to remove the song from the ballot was made last week, after the nominations were announced. The song was mistakenly submitted for consideration, the source says.
