ABC Family 25 Days of Christmas – Day 9

I figured I should start to include the 9 PM time frame as it gets closer to Christmas itself so you do not miss any of the shows that will be on.  The 9th day of ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas brings us Rudolph’s Shiny New Year, and who can forget Baby New Year, one of my favorite Rudolph characters.  Something about Eon, who is after Baby New Year is difficult to really work through in your head because all he is doing is trying to protect himself from being done with.  Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town gives the kids a very insightful look to the story of how Kris Kringle came to be.  I always thought that as a child, the question of why and how come up often, this special answers that. 

(7:00-8:00 PM ET/PT) RUDOLPH’S SHINY NEW YEAR

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer has a new problem: Baby New Year has run away from Father Time and Santa has sent Rudolph after him. The future is riding on Rudolph’s success – without a Baby New Year to ring in the next year, December 31st will last forever and thereby eliminate all future Christmases. (Animated)

(8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) SANTA CLAUS IS COMIN’ TO TOWN

Fred Astaire narrates this tale of Kris Kringle (Mickey Rooney), a young boy with an immense desire to do good things for others. In his home village of Sombertown, Kris has started a gift factory where he builds toys and gives them to all the local children. But when the evil ruler, Burgermeister (Paul Frees), bans toys from the land, Kris is forced to go directly to Mother Nature and ask her for assistance. With the help of magical elves and several special reindeer, Kris overcomes the Burgermeister and delivers toys to children all over the world, earning him the name Santa Claus. (Animated)

(9:00-10:30 PM ET/PT) RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER AND THE ISLAND OF MISFIT TOYS

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is out to save Christmas once again in this stop-motion animated holiday musical. When the Evil Toy Taker steals all of Santa’s toys, Rudolph and his friends – the misfit toys – set out to get them back before the world’s children wake up to empty stockings on Christmas morning! (Animated)

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys is one of those specials that looks to cash in on the fame of the scene in the original and classic Rudolph special.  I personally though it was a mess, the computer animated cartoon is just not up to par even to 2001 standards and the story is just haphazardly thrown together.  Nothing to see here, just move along.
